Climate Change Facts - Can Guayusa Contribute? Part 1 / 2

2019 was the year that more and more people were talking about climate change, and rightly so. In this article we would like to provide you with facts, substantiate them with sources and, in the second part, draw your attention to possibilities for counteracting climate change together. We will also go into an agriculture that can enormously reduce the CO2 production of conventional agriculture without sacrificing yields.
The purpose of this post is to provide a summary of what is currently going on.
What is climate change?
The majority of scientists, around 98%, agree that current climate change is man-made change. The specialists also agree that the extent of the impending catastrophes can only be roughly guessed at by us. The consequences depend on many so-called tipping points, which, if they occur, will lead to devastating natural disasters that will gradually make planet earth uninhabitable for all life
One of the effects of climate change is, for example, the global rise in temperature that has been discussed again and again. This will hardly be noticeable in some regions, but even more so in others. Regions like Portugal and Spain could turn into desert landscapes and Greenland could experience summer temperatures.
Numbers, data, facts about climate change
2017 was the hottest year since climate records began, with 2015 second, 2014 third, and 2018 fourth. The year 2019 had the warmest June ever here in Germany.
53.9° Celsius was measured in Kuwait in 2017. That was the highest value ever measured.
As early as 2009, the annual victims of climate change were estimated at around 300,000 people, and by 2030 it is expected to be around 500,000 people per year.
The current animal extinction is up to 1,000 times higher than in the last 10 million years. Countries like Ireland, Great Britain, Argentina and Canada have already declared a climate emergency. But that doesn't mean that we, people and states, change our behavior at the same time. In Canada, the expansion of an oil pipeline was approved the following day.
At the beginning of 2018, 174 countries had ratified the Paris climate agreement with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C. However, the self-commitments submitted by the states would not be sufficient to ensure a maximum increase of 2°C, even if implemented in absolute terms. The temperature is expected to rise by 3°C. However, this warming of 3°C does not take place equally in all regions of the earth, but is distributed completely unevenly. The temperature increase in the polar regions could be between 9°C - 11°C. With an average global temperature increase of 4°C, large parts of southern Europe will become desert.
Global warming causes disasters such as heat waves, storms, extreme rainfall, floods, landslides, air pollution, droughts, water shortages, sea level rise and storm surges. These disasters will hit the financially poorer people hardest. Climate change will therefore increase the existing problems of our society such as hunger, poverty and suffering.
Even a rise in global temperature of no more than 1.5°C (i.e. 0.5°C less than ratified in the Paris Climate Agreement) would lead to an enormous rise in sea level. Around 280 million people would have to leave their homes, which is around four times more people than are currently fleeing the world.
tipping points
There are a number of so-called tipping points which, when reached, will result in unstoppable domino effects. Without knowing exactly when these thresholds are reached and exceeded, it is possible to say fairly exactly what happens when they are reached. For example, there are huge amounts of the greenhouse gas methane under the permafrost of the Arctic. Methane has an approx. 20 - 30 times higher climate impact than CO2.
The methane would quickly overheat the plane trees and make them uninhabitable.
The damages are estimated at either 100 trillion euros or they mean the loss of civilization as a whole.
-- Short comment at this point: "That's way too much too much!" --
climate targets
A study commissioned by the Federal Ministry defined the most important goals for keeping global warming below 1.5°C.
- 100% renewable energy by 2050.
- No more coal power plants.
- Sale of the last petrol-powered car by 2035.
-- In our opinion, the abolition of livestock farming is clearly missing here. This is not only responsible for approx. 51% of global CO2 emissions, it is also useless and ethically unacceptable! --
The climate package currently presented by the Republic of Germany would have been a good idea 30 years ago, but from today's perspective it is a disaster!
Germany has also missed the climate targets for 2020!
The way in which one of the most important issues of our time is dealt with around the world shows that this should not only be a political issue. At this point, politics is, as so often, indolent, narrow-minded, powerless and controlled by industries. The choices related to climate will determine not only our lives, those of our descendants, but also the future of humanity as a species.
In the second part, we would like to draw your attention to possible measures that each of us can use to help positively influence the climate and its global effects. Because we are by no means powerless!

[2] I have selected Internet sources as evidence so that the statements can be easily checked. The URLs of most/longer links have been shortened because otherwise not everything would have fit into the description. There would have been so many more sources and information that unfortunately do not fit here. If you have any information/sources, please share them in the comments! The most important sources were the reports of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, in which 195 governments are members and more than 120 observer organizations. Quote: "The status reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are considered by science to be the most credible and well-founded representation of the [...] state of research on the climate and its changes [...]." https: //de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intergo... At the same time The IPCC is sometimes accused of underestimating the dangers of climate change, partly because political interests are included in its reports. See e.g. e.g.: http://bit.ly/36kanoT
