Hibiscus from Ecuador
Our hibiscus flowers come from smallholder farmers in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest. GUYA works exclusively with smallholder farmers who grow their crops in so-called chakras (permaculture gardens) or chakra plots (mixed-cropping systems).

Health properties
AMAZONIAN HIBISCUS turns water into an intensely red, fruity, tart infusion. Hibiscus on its own contains no caffeine. That makes it a versatile base for your tea, including when you’re consciously looking for an alternative to caffeinated drinks.
Hibiscus’s characteristic plant pigments are called anthocyanins and belong to the polyphenols. They create the colour in your glass. The plant’s natural acids also contribute to its flavour and intensity. Hibiscus therefore has a very different plant profile from Guayusa.
Enjoy hibiscus hot or chilled over ice. Try it without sugar first and adjust the amount to get the level of tartness you like. Orange makes it fruitier; ginger adds spice. If you add Guayusa, your caffeine-free base becomes a caffeinated blend.

Recipes and ideas
Add 1–2 teaspoons of tea to the infuser for 400 ml of water.
Pour boiling water directly into the infuser.
Steep for 5–15 minutes, then strain.
Our hibiscus tea is simple to prepare.
The steeping time depends on how strong you want the flavour. After 5 minutes, it already has a deep red colour; after 10–15 minutes, the flavour becomes very intense. 1–2 tsp per 400 ml glass is enough.
It also tastes great blended with other teas, such as GUYA PURE, orange tea, ginger tea and ishpingo tea.

The story behind your GUYA
Discover AMAZONIAN HIBISCUS in the video: learn about the ingredients, where they come from and ideas for your own GUYA ritual.
Our Amazonian Hibiscus consists of pure, dried and finely chopped hibiscus fruits from the Amazon rainforest. This species of hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa), also called Flor de Jamaica, has a sweeter taste than the variant known in Europe.
Grown in the permaculture forest gardens of the Kichwa indigenous people in Ecuador, it supports the preservation of rainforest biodiversity.
The hibiscus flowers and their fruits are ideal for creating your own tea blends and adding flavour to GUYA PURE. Hibiscus also pairs beautifully with ginger and ishpingo.
GUYA now also offers this ingredient as a single product, without Guayusa to support the farmers in Ecuador by sourcing a wider range of their products and to give you the opportunity to enjoy high-quality ingredients.
GUYA’s philosophy is to promote biodiversity. Join us in this effort and explore the flavours of the Amazon rainforest!
You can be sure that we’re more than just resellers of ingredients. On our YouTube channel you’ll find short documentaries and vlogs featuring our farmers in Ecuador. GUYA founder Sebastian gives you a transparent look at how we work together and how your Guayusa is produced.
NOTE: The best-before date for this product is approaching: 10.26. The best-before date is not a use-by date: it describes the period during which the full quality of an unopened pack stored correctly must be guaranteed by law. The packaging protects against light, moisture and odours, helping preserve aroma, nutrients and quality. That is why our products can maintain the same quality for at least two years beyond the best-before date.
